xFarm Technologies: How Data is Shaping the Future of Farming

Matteo Vanotti, CEO of xFarm Technologies, sat down with Conference Producer Louise Crauet ahead of his appearance as a speaker at the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit in London, to discuss how digital platforms are transforming agriculture.

Data as a Farmer’s Ally

Vanotti emphasized that agriculture is becoming increasingly digital, with data and algorithms playing a vital role in helping farmers navigate challenges like:

  • Climate variability and extreme weather

  • Regulatory changes

  • Market price fluctuations

By collecting and applying data, farmers can access insights that were once difficult to deliver in simple, actionable ways. With AI and agronomic know-how, platforms like xFarm can help farmers make better operational decisions: when to irrigate, how to optimize resources, and how to remain both sustainable and profitable.

Extending Benefits Across the Supply Chain

While farmers are the starting point, Vanotti highlighted that the benefits of data ripple through the entire food system. Data supports:

  • Warehouses, traders, and food companies in tracking sustainability KPIs

  • Improved traceability and food safety

  • Transparent reporting on environmental impacts

The Importance of Data Interoperability

One major focus for xFarm Technologies is ensuring that agricultural data can be shared and standardized across platforms. New regulations in Europe, the Americas, and Asia are pushing toward common standards, making it easier for farmers, machinery providers, and food companies to “speak the same language” through interoperable data.

Practical Projects in Action

Andriani (Italy)
xFarm partnered with gluten-free pasta producer Andriani to digitize its vegetable supply chain. Hundreds of farmers are now supported with digital tools and agronomic models, enabling Andriani to display transparent sustainability metrics—such as carbon and water impact—on each packet of pasta.

Bunge (Brazil)
Working with global trader Bunge, xFarm is helping digitize cereal supply chains to support regenerative agricultural practices. Data not only guides farmers in adopting sustainable practices but also provides proof of lower-impact commodities to global buyers.
